The Senior Shop Origin Story.

The Senior Shop story has been writing itself for decades.

Jonathan and I (Stacy) were both very fortunate to have close relationships with our grandparents. Our daughter (Aliyah) is also besties with her grandparents and was able to meet and spend time with her “greats” too.

The catalyst for action started in December of 2019, when we realized that my parents needed extra support, and we orchestrated their relocation from Texas back to Colorado. They moved into our neighborhood, and for several years we supported them by helping with medications, doctor appointments, and all the little everyday things that were becoming tougher for them to do unassisted. We became intimately familiar with the challenges of memory loss and health challenges while helping them navigate the world of insurance and pharmacies.

In January of 2024, Dad was unexpectedly diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.  By the time of diagnosis, it had already spread to his bones, and he was moved immediately into hospice care.  He passed 6 weeks later.  Dad was the primary caretaker for our mom and with him no longer with us, it became evident that she needed more support than we could provide, so in April of 2024, she moved into a wonderful, assisted living community.

This transition, while difficult, was life changing for her – in both hard and amazing ways. Obviously, life without her beloved life partner has been difficult, but the supportive environment of her new community, the social aspects, the care provided, and the routine have all been very helpful and allow her to live as independently as possible.

We are fortunate to live close by so we can regularly visit with Mom and her friends. During these visits, one consistent piece of feedback we hear is that many of the residents feel forgotten and that they no longer matter to the outside world.

Enter the Senior Shop: A mobile retail experience that exists to ensure seniors feel seen, loved and considered.  The Senior Shop offers an opportunity to purchase budget-friendly gifts, comforts, and essentials through a mobile, pop-up format in their living communities, while also providing an outlet for our customers to share their stories.

Our family is delighted to have the opportunity to serve the senior community and look forward to seeing how the story continues to unfold.
